Childhood and electronic devices, what is the limit?

Infância e aparelhos eletrônicos, qual o limite?

Your child spends hours on a cellphone, tablet, or playing video games every day. But is that healthy for them?

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the recommendation is for children to have free time for healthier activities, especially outdoors. The AHA suggests that children and teenagers from 8 to 18 should use electronic devices for no more than two hours a day, and the ones aged 2 to 5 for only one hour daily.

And all this for many reasons: the children’s health being the main one. In 2016, the American Academy of Pediatrics conducted a study that states the possible problems that children may face when being exposed to electronic devices for extended periods: obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and trouble sleeping are some of them. “Heart health begins during childhood, so I think it is appropriate for the American Heart Association to examine all issues that can contribute to heart disease,” said David Hill, from the American Academy of Pediatrics in an interview with CNN. What is it like at your house? Do you have any difficulty controlling your child’s use of electronic devices? Tell us in the comments.
